Just got back from from a short family camping trip in the Forest of Dean. Anyone can go and look at photos of the scenery, so instead I wanted to share photos of this: an insulating windshield that my wife made more than 15 years ago.
It has a polystyrene body wrapped in foil and hinged in two places. Two tent-peg sized holes at either extreme are used to anchor it to the ground. It weighs about 20 grammes and fits snugly into our pan box. It has survived so many camping trips in the British Isles that I can’t calculate how much time and money it has saved by reducing cooking times.
It’s such a terrific piece of camping equipment - an exemplar of engineering sufficiency - I just had to share.
(Gratuitous picture of the England’s Glory matchbox because it gives me a chuckle every morning when I have to light the stove.)
